Piano restoration in 24 simple stages...
I’ve had plenty of time to perfect a rigorous restoration methodology over 2 decades of refurbishing all types of pianos. I guarantee you’ll be pleased with the outcomes of my meticulous workmanship. A professional restoration of your piano is done as 24-stage process:
- Dismantle the cabinet and its components.
- Remove the cast iron plate from the piano.
- Bridges and soundboard should next be sanded and refinished.
- Cabinet, furniture items, and bench should all be stripped and sanded.
- Replace or restore the original key cover.
- Finish with multiple coats of lacquer in the original color
- The plate should be cleaned, sanded, re-gilded, and dressed with the proper felts.
- Remove the pin block and inspect it (duplicate if needed).
- Remove the underlever tray and inspect it.
- Tighten the underlevers and inspect the damper guide rail and felt bushings.
- As needed, rebush the action parts.
- The cast iron plate should be reinstalled and aligned.
- Install new strings and tuning pins after adjusting the down bearing.
- Perform concert pitch tuning of the piano strings.
- Refinish the damper blocks by removing the original felt.
- New damper felt should be cut and installed.
- Regulate the sustain pedal and the dampers at the back of the key.
- The hammers should be shaped, filed, and spaced.
- Dip for suitable after touch after determining the hammer height in relation to the key height.
- Make adjustments to the let-off, drop, and back checks.
- Professional piano tuning is done in the workshop, gradually increasing the tension until it reaches concert pitch.
- After they’ve settled, fine-tune the damper regulation.
- Clean and buff all cabinet hardware before putting the piano together.
- Fine-tune your instrument to concert pitch.
